This genius Norwegian creation, was invented in the 90S and actually got a few international rewards for innovation. But it also very simple to cook up on your grill or smoker at home!

  • Ground beef (30%/70% fat/meat)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ground pepper

  • 2-3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Cheese

Get to the grinder
I had a great amount of meat stacking up in the freezer. You can buy store bought ground beef from the store, but then I recommend adding some extra fat. But if you are going to grind meat yourself, make sure that all the parts in the grinder are cold (I leave my grinder parts in the freezer a few hours before I start) I grind the meat in two stages. First coarse, and then medium coarse.

Mix everything
Mix all the ingredients lightly in a bowl. (Do not work too much with the mixture so it don`t turn to a stuffing) Usually I don`t use salt in my ground beef for burgers, but with roller burgers they are cooked fairly quickly, so the meat does not lose too much of its moisture.

Spread the ground beef on a baking sheet
Spread the ground beef on a baking sheet, place another baking sheet over the meat and use a rolling pin to make a flat square of ground beef. Divide into suitably large squares, (Do not make them too large as there is a greater chance that they will become dry) put a “stick” of cheese at one end of the square and roll together into sausages. squeeze the ends and make sure they are tight and the seams are tightly squeezed. Put them in the fridge so they can settle a bit before cooking. Meanwhile fire up the grill, with two zones, one hot and one indirect zone.

Grill
Place the roller burgers on direct heat, so that they get a nice crust. then place them on the slightly cooler side of the grill to let them finish cooking on indirect heat. This is fairly quick and easy, almost like grilling sausages. It can be a little difficult to measure the internal temperature due to the cheese in the middle, so a good sign is when the cheese starts to pop out. Then they are done. Serve with whatever you like, in a hot dog bun, or serve them with a light salad for a healthier alternative.

WARNING:
Wait a few minutes before taking a bite, as the cheese can be VERY hot!
